More about my album "Commitment"

I had always wanted to record an album of instrumental works and that is what this album "Commitment" turned out to be. The time was 1990 and I was in a strange place professionally. I had let go of my dream of being a recording artist and had recently settled in Minneapolis, MN. The bills and expenses of life were still coming in and I had not yet latched onto the computer world, so I found myself doing odd jobs to support myself. I wasn't in the greatest frame of mind and my self-esteem was sinking.

In an attempt to bolster my spirits, I did what I had always done in the past; I made plans to record a new album. However, in the process of writing some new songs, I realized that I didn't have much to say! Then, I thought, well, let's just do some instrumental pieces.

I had recently purchased a new synthesizer, a Korg M-1, and was thrilled at working with composing new songs on it. The sound palette of the Korg was much broader than my old Yamaha DX-7, plus it had onboard effects like reverb, etc. I found it a joy to work with.

As I was putting together ideas for the cover, a friend of mine suggested that I try to do it on the computer. This was new to me but very exciting, and with his help I fashioned the cover and layout that you see before you. Soon I got hooked on computer graphics and started to explore my creativity with visuals, but that is another story!

For now, I hope you enjoy my "Commitment!"
